Dr. Raj Ratwani

Dr. Raj Ratwani is the vice president of scientific affairs for the MedStar Health Research Institute. He is responsible for supporting researchers in program development, identifying strategic partners and funding opportunities to foster high-impact research, and supporting an administrative infrastructure that enables rigorous research.
Dr. Ratwani is also the director of the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare—the largest human factors research team embedded in a healthcare system. As a center director, he is responsible for overall strategy development and execution, and he oversees research, advisory services, and education efforts.
Dr. Ratwani’s research focuses on patient safety, digital health, data science, and artificial intelligence. He has received over $20m in federal and industry-applied research and innovation funding, including serving as principal investigator on five R01 awards. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in high-profile journals such as JAMA and Health Affairs. National Public Radio, Fortune Magazine, and Kaiser Health News have all featured his work. He has also focused on improving healthcare policy through testimony to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee, service on the 21st Century Cures Act Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, and policy advisement to several healthcare stakeholders, including the Senate and House of Representatives. He earned a Doctorate in Human Factors and Applied Cognition from George Mason University and received the Fleishman dissertation award for outstanding research. He completed a National Research Council post-doctoral fellowship at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Dr. Ross Filice

Dr. Ross Filice is a Professor, the Chief of Imaging Informatics, and the Director of Research in the Department of Radiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as well as the Chief of Imaging Informatics for MedStar Medical Group Radiology. He is the Director of the Georgetown Radiology Informatics Mini-Fellowship and also holds a position as Clinical Informatics Scientist in the National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare within the MedStar Institute for Innovation. Dr. Filice performs clinical and teaching duties as an attending physician in the Abdominal Imaging Section at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
After earning bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Molecular Biology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Dr. Filice earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. This was followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at Greenwich Hospital, a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a fellowship in MRI and Imaging Informatics at the University of Maryland Medical System.
Dr. Filice focuses on imaging the chest, abdomen, and pelvis using all modalities including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Radiography (X-Rays) and with particular focus on liver MRI, prostate MRI, pelvic MRI, multi-modality cancer imaging, and multi-organ transplant evaluation. He also works on enterprise and operational informatics challenges including managing and improving the enterprise imaging platform, deployment of artificial intelligence tools, establishing opportunistic screening programs, and collaborative informatics, quality, and safety research. He is regularly invited to speak nationally and internationally on imaging informatics topics, serves as a reviewer for multiple journals, and has published numerous articles in the field.
