KEEP THIS CHECKLIST HANDY
Five questions for
any AI claim.
A promising result is a starting point. These questions help you understand what it might mean in a different setting.
01 · What problem is it trying to solve?
Identify the clinical, operational, or patient need. Understand the existing workflow and what a useful improvement would look like.
02 · Where was it used?
Check the organization, care setting, population, and implementation stage. A pilot in one setting may not generalize to another.
03 · What did they measure?
Look for the outcome definition, comparison, sample size, and time period. Separate observed results from projections.
04 · What are the trade-offs?
Consider workflow, oversight, safety, equity, privacy, cost, and limitations identified by the source.
05 · Can I follow the evidence?
Read the original source. Check its date, authorship, methods, and whether newer evidence changes the picture.
